Poppy Hill
My other passion other than music is 'MOVIES'! Love, love movies. I love a long list of favourite movies, so when people ask me about my favourite movie, I honestly cannot finish telling them, because I have lots. It is much easier when I answer them that I have a lot and I cannot choose just a few.
But today, I want to talk about one of my favourite movies, an animated movie called "From Up The Poppy Hill". It was released in 2011 based on a graphic novel I believe and I love this one very much. It was set back in 1963, the time that I'd like to think as ideal. I love all of Studio Ghibli's movies but I particularly love this one more than the others for obvious reasons. The movie is like the kind of life that I would love to have lived. Cooking for the family, going to school, doing club activities and all that kind of high school life... And live in a beautiful house overlooking the ocean, with a garden full of greenery and flower bushes. This is quite an ideal setting for me to live, like a dream place. And the love stories in high school periods always appeal to me. I would love to meet someone like Kazama Shun. He seemed such a good, dependable person. I will try to restrain my fan-girling self in this post because it will seem inappropriate. But Kazama Shun was really a nice shounen. Nice shounen indeed...and Minuzuma was also a good high school boy. The scenes in the school really crack me up. Those scenes are the things that I could only hope for the boys in my former school to do. People here are not really into club activities, which is a darn shame. And we are always told to abide by the rules by the school's authority. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to live a little and have fun, right? That is why I kind of hate their authority, they restrain people from so much good stuff that they want to do. Breaking the rules does not always have to be bad. In the movie, the people are so energetic, optimistic, and passionate. Over here, the boys are like wannabes. They are such boring creatures who want to grow up so fast. And it is not cool or impressive to me, you know? I feel like they should enjoy life more in the way like in the movie. I could only hope I would experience such seishun in my youth, or in my lifetime.
But I would not want to undergo the misunderstandings that Umi faced. I could only imagine how it must have felt like in that situation. And she's such a strong person. Even though women are weaker than men, but somehow, I feel in some aspects, women can also be strong in a sense. I adore Umi greatly. If I had to do all the things that she does for her family, I do not know if I could last and still keep a smiling face like hers. I mean, I've been cooking and cleaning for my family and I honestly do not enjoy it all the time, although I sometimes do. It is just that I feel my other siblings should help and do their part too, which they rarely do, like once in a blue moon. So I admire Umi very much. If I could, I would like to develop the strength like she has. And it wouldn't hurt to meet a boy like Kazama too. ^_^
